What Is Gusset Pouch Packaging?
A gusset pouch is a flexible package with inward-folded panels along both sides. These accordion-style folds allow the pouch to lie flat before filling and expand as product is added, increasing usable capacity without requiring a wider front panel.
Common formats include center-seal gusset pouches and side-seal gusset pouches. Center-seal gusset pouches feature a fin or lap seal along the back and are commonly used for tea, coffee, seeds, nuts, powders and products packed on automated packaging lines. Side-seal gusset pouches use side seals to create a cleaner profile suited to branded retail packaging.
A conventional gusset pouch is different from an 8-side seal pouch. Gusset pouches gain capacity primarily through their expandable side folds and typically do not have a rigid flat bottom. By comparison, 8-side seal pouches use a defined flat-bottom construction with additional bottom seals for improved stability.
